Being distinctive is a calling we are all given as Christians.
To stand out.
To shine the light of Jesus.
To reflect the glory of God.
To radiate the love and grace shown to us.
To live differently to those who don’t have the Gospel as a reality in their lives.
This is a high calling indeed!
But it defines who we are.
Being distinctive is what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
But how can we live distinctive lives?
Because am I the only one who finds myself blending in to the world around me?
Making my choices based on the influences of my culture rather than my God?
No, I don’t think I’m the only one.
But I do think there is a way to walk this narrow path.
Live out this high calling.
Because being distinctive is something we can all do – we just need to know how.
Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice andkeep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”
God as a plan for His people.
That they should be set apart.
Kept for His purposes.
And of course, we fall short of this.
We fail to live as the holy people God would like us to be.
We fall into temptation and we mess up.
In His grace God has given us the privilege of being part of His kingdom through the cross. We have been saved from our inadequacies, our bad choices, our sins. And we have been made holy.
Yet, as disciples of Jesus we are to still work at being distinctive. Every day. Stand out as the holy people of God we are.
So how do we keep focused on being distinctive of falling into the patterns of the world?
Encounter with Father God.
Through spending time at His feet.
Engaged in His Word.
Listening to His voice.
Reflecting on His promises.
Walking in the footsteps of Jesus.
Being filled and refilled with the Spirit.
Because I don’t know about you but I drift. I easily get distracted. I become more focused on the influences around me than the influences of God.
And then I start to become less distinctive.
I start to fade a little.
Become more mediocre.
The only way I can keep being distinctive is to keep centred on God.
Through being in His presence.
Every. Single. Day.
And now it’s linkup time!!!
